Basic Requirment
Admission to National Colleges of Education to follow a Pre- Service Professional Course in Teacher Education
Should have passed three subjects in one sitting at the G.C.E.(A/L) examination
(Should have passed six core subjects including Mathematics, Sinhala/Tamil Language with three Credit passes at the G.C.E.(O/L)Examination in not more than two sittings.(should have passed at least 5 Core subjects at the first sitting).
If the Special requirements in the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination mentioned under 3.2 have not been completed in two sittings, they should have been completed at the third sitting. (Special requirements will be considered only if the applicants have completed the basic qualifications indicated at
Those who apply for English Medium course except for English Language Course should have obtained a Credit pass in English/Ordinary pass in English Literature at the G.C.E.(O/L)Examination;
A pass in any Three Subjects at G.C.E.(A/L) Examination including English Language (not General English) with a credit pass for English Language/Ordinary pass in English Literature and Six core subjects including Sinhala/Tamil Language and Mathematics at G.C.E.(O/L) Examination/ London G.C.E.(O/L) Examination;
A pass in any three subjects in one sitting at G.C.E.(A/L) examination and three passes including English at London G.C.E.(A/L) examination held in year 2009 and a credit pass in English Language/Ordinary pass in English Literature at G.C.E.(O/L) examination/ London G.C.E.(O/L)examination having passed six core subjects including Sinhala/Tamil Language and Mathematics; A pass in any three subjects at G.C.E.(A/L) examination and passed G.C.E.(O/L) examination in six core subjects including Sinhala/Tamil Language and Mathematics with a very good pass in English Language/Credit pass in English Literature. Note:- Priority will be given to those who qualify under 4.5.1.and 4.5.2. They do not need to sit for the proficiency test. Their qualifications should be proved at the interview. Applicants who are qualified under 4.5.3.will be selected through the selection Test. Course ProgramOrientation Program The main aim of the orientation program is to help the teacher trainees newly admitted to the College, adjust themselves to the new and collective life at the college. This is usually a ten day program and begins in the afternoon of the day of their admission to the college. The main aims of this program could be listed as follows. English Total immersion program The teacher trainees who enter the National College of Education to follow the English course are selected on the basis of the marks scored in the proficiency and A/L subject stream they have followed. But as they come from various parts of the country with different social and educational backgrounds their proficiency in English language skills are at different levels. At the same time even though the teacher trainees have studied English since their primary grades and earned very good passes for English at G.C.E.(O/L)examination, most of them are in dire need to improve their language competency.
